The realest adventure travel site out there. Get started by clicking the pictures below, or scroll down to learn about Chasing the Real World.

CHASING THE REAL WORLD is about:

INSPIRATION: What inspires us to travel, adventure, take the risks that let us connect with people from outside our own world? Usually not a tourism guide, but instead a snatch of phrase, a grainy photo of hills, a song in a language we don’t know. The stories and photos here hope to stick in your mind, to become the fragment of thought that drives you to connect with more of the world; and to do so more thoughtfully, intensely, and meaningfully.

TRAVEL PHILOSOPHY: Travel immediately raises tough questions: How to get from here to there? How do I say no to this person? Where is the bathroom? Why am I even doing this? Seriously, toilet, right now? Answers to these deep questions are personal, so I won’t suggest answers, but I’ll suggest ways to think about them.

ENTERTAINMENT: Travel makes us into hilarious buffoons. Sometimes the stories are just too good not to share.

TELLING THE TRUTH: “Don’t listen to what they say. Go see” is a top-10 travel cliche. But it is spot on. We are all full of deep misconceptions about other places in the world, and the people there. This blog aims to reveal the real, to set the record straight. To show that humanity is more diverse than we can imagine; but that we all want the same things, have great talents, and deserve the world.

THE REAL WORLD is not much portrayed by TV, influencers, or classes. It is dirty, spicy, unjust, too hot, full of opportunity, and populated by the most resourceful people in the world. It is worth checking out. This site is not a map to the real world. It aspires to be like the blasted-out hippie in some Himalayan hostel who can’t quite remember the name of some awesome lake but can tell you where the trail starts. You have to take it from there.

THIS SITE contains no destination guides. Packing lists, travel insurance tips, and other over-analyzed practicalities are also absent. It aims instead to unlock the messier, more real sides of what travel and the world itself are all about. Don’t read this site if you want to know exactly what to do; but read to learn about how to find your own moments of connection. You can use the menu at the top of each page to navigate the site. Or, use the search bar to search by country or keyword.
